Church of Santa Maria al Paradiso

Corso di Porta Vigentina, Milano, Italy

Description:

Santa Maria al Paradiso is one of Milan’s many architectural and cultural attractions. Its construction began in 1590 on the initiative of the Third Order of St. Francis. Initially, the building was built according to the projects of the famous architect Martino Bassi. However, in 1897, the construction of Santa Maria al Paradiso passed into the hands of engineer Ernesto Porovano, who added many elements in the Neo-Baroque style.

The facade of the building tapering to the top is decorated with many relief images and stucco elements. On either side of the main entrance there are two wooden doors leading to utility rooms. The highlights of Santa Maria al Paradiso are clock towers dating from the XVIII century, as well as huge arched and rectangular stained glass windows. In general, the temple looks quite elegant and harmonious. The interior of the church has preserved some original decorations, including stucco medallions depicting scenes from the life of St. Mary.
