Description:
Walking through the historic center of Milan, you can not help but look at the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which became one of the symbols of the Renaissance. It is here that the most famous work of Leonardo da Vinci is located – the fresco “Last Supper”. The fresco is located in the refectory temple and is the main reason for the mass pilgrimage of tourists to the church.
The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie was built in two approaches. The first version of the building was completed in 1490 and was a vivid example of Gothic architectural style. But two years later, the owner of the church, Duke Lodovico Sforza, wanted to place a family tomb here, after which construction work resumed.
After reconstruction in the 17th century, new frescoes appeared on the walls of the church, the authorship of which belongs to such masters as Ferrari, Montorfano and Serano.
