St Bartholomew's Church
Via della Moscova, 6 - 20121 Milano, Italy
Description:
The Church of St. Bartholomew is located on the Via Della Moscova in Milan. The church was built in the style of eclecticism in 1864 by the project of Maurizio Garavalla. In fact, this building replaced the old temple, built in honor of St. Bartholomew in 1500. In the middle of the XIX century, the old building was demolished, and some works of art from the old church were moved to the new one. The most famous is the icon of Our Lady of Good Counsel or Madonna del Buon, a copy of the eponymous painting by the famous Austrian artist Lucas Kranak, donated to the church by Countess Teresa Gordone Serbelloni.
In the church are buried many representatives of the nobility of Milan, including Karl Josef von Firmian, who was the plenipotentiary minister - representative of Austria in Lombardy from 1756 to 1782. The monument to Karl Josef von Firmian is made in neoclassical style by sculptor Giuseppe Franci
The acoustics of the large hall of the temple are highly appreciated, so many parishioners and tourists come to listen to the church choir accompanied by the organ.
