Arengario Palace
Piazza del Duomo, Milano, Italia
Description:
Arengario Palace is located on Duomo Square in the central district of Milan. It is a complex of two symmetrical buildings, the construction of which began in 1936. The palace is an artistic and architectural landmark of the city.
The complex was designed by famous Italian architects Muzio, Portaluppi, Magistretti and Griffini. Construction of the buildings was completed in the 1950s, and a competition was announced in 1999 to restructure the Arengario Palace. Now there is a museum, which presents a collection of Italian art of the XX century.
In June 2007, restoration work began on the project of architects Italo Rota and Fabio Fornazari. All floors were connected by a spiral staircase - a symbol of overcoming time and space, which connects the past with the present. The interior of the premises was adapted for expositions of collections of modern art.
