Palace of the Italian Commercial Bank

Gallerie di piazza Scala 6, Palazzo della Banca Commerciale Italiana, Piazza Scala - Milan (MI), Italy

Description:

The Palace of the Italian Commercial Bank, built in 1906-1908, is located in the historic center of Milan on Della Scala Square. The Neoclassical building was built by architect Luca Beltrami between 1906 and 1908. This architectural solution was well combined with the appearance of the Teatro La Scala. A special splendor marble facade of the building gives the central pediment with four giant Ionic columns.

Banca Commerciale Italiana (BCI) was founded in 1862. It is now part of Europe’s largest banking group, Intesa Sanpaolo, and has transformed its historic headquarters in Milan into Italy’s majestic contemporary art museum. The interiors of the old bank are left intact, exhibits are displayed next to the counters of clerks and bill counters that were here a hundred years ago.

Here are the works of the postwar period of famous artists Lucio Fontana, Renato Guttuso, Bruno Munari, abstract works by Emilio Vedova, collages by Alberto Burri.
