Litta Palace
Corso Magenta, 26-28, 20121 Milano, Italy
Description:
Litta is a fine example of a Baroque palace. It was designed by architect Francesco Maria Ricini and was an important center of Milan’s cultural and political life.
Construction of the palace began in 1648, for the chairman of the Milan Senate, Count Bartolomeo Arese. The facade was created by Francesco Bolly in 1752-1763. In the building of the palace were solemn receptions such important persons as Margarita Teresa and Napoleon.
The owner of the palace changed several times and as a result there were transformations in its interior and appearance. During the 2nd World War, the building was partially destroyed. The last restoration project was designed by Jonghi-Lavarini in 1944. Some rooms have retained their original appearance. For example, the Duchess’s room is decorated with wooden carvings and the walls are covered with precious fabrics.
