Mezanotte Palace

Piazza degli Affari, 6, 20123 Milano, Italy

Description:

The Mezanotte Palace in Milan is the most famous work of architect Paolo Mezanotte. The Milan Stock Exchange is now located in this building. The palace was built in the style of neoclassicism.

The design of the palace was developed in 1927, and two years later construction work began. The process was complicated by the fact that the ruins of a Roman theater were discovered at the construction site during excavations. Now there is a plaque on the Milan Stock Exchange building that displays a map of those ruins.

The construction of the Mezanotte Palace was completed in 1932. This is the first building in which a system of calling several elevators with the press of a single button was installed. Air conditioning equipment is installed here, as well as the largest at that time electric display for updating securities quotes in real time.

The palace is built in two styles - architecture of the XX century and neoclassicism. The facade is built of marble and travertine, the walls of the palace are decorated with sculptures of Leon Lodi. In the building of the Milan Stock Exchange there was the very first transaction of sale in the early XIX century. Until the end of the XX century, everyone could trade here.
