The Piazza Scala Gallery in Milan is located on the square of the same name. It contains 195 works from the collections of Fondazione Cariplo, including paintings and sculptures by artists of the XIX century.
The exhibition of the Piazza Scala Gallery is divided into 13 parts. One of them presents bas-reliefs of the famous Italian sculptor Antonio Canova, depicting Christian virtues. Visitors are offered a collection of paintings by different masters of that time with the image of the Milan Cathedral.
The gallery exhibits 21 paintings with Lombard landscapes, 28 paintings of the Dutch and Flemish schools, depicting scenes from the life of ordinary people. The group of Italian painters Macchioli, which formed in Florence by the early 1860s, is also represented by works in one of the halls of Piazza Scala.
The new gallery was opened in the historic building of the Commercial Bank of Italy in October 2012. About 189 works of art of the XX century were transferred here.
