Duomo Square

Italy, Milan, Piazza del Duomo, 10, 20122 Milan

Description:

Duomo Square is the heart of Milan, protected by the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, the main theater, the best shops, cinemas. And all this under the supervision of the City Hall. Center, in a word. From here all walks in the fashion capital begin, it is always beautiful, pleasant, fun and sweet, and the number of Milanese pigeons definitely exceeds the number of Venetian counterpart.

At the base of the square lies the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria Nascente, built mainly of white marble. The cathedral was laid on the site where the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore (IX century) used to stand.

Its construction began under the first Milanese Duke Gianna Galeazzo Visconti in 1386, the final date of construction is considered 1927, when bronze doors were installed.

Outside, the cathedral is decorated with more than 2,000 marble statues, 135 large lace spires and many small, openwork carvings, thanks to which the cathedral becomes weightless. The interior of the cathedral emphasizes its greatness and strength, sparkling stained glass windows of the XV-XIX centuries create a bizarre play of light, and numerous statues inspire some fear.

By elevator or on foot you can climb to the roof of the cathedral and admire the fascinating views of Milan.
