Place de Corduzio

Piazza Cordusio, 20123 Milano, Italy

Description:

Corduzio Square is one of the most beautiful squares in the center of Milan. It is often referred to as the “square of banks”, as it is the headquarters of several large banks: UniCredit, Intesa Sanpaolo and Barclay, as well as the largest insurance company Assicurazione Generali. The name of the square comes from the words Cors Ducis or Ducal Court, which was on this place in the V-VII centuries AD. From the square originates the pedestrian street Via Dante, leading to the castle of Sforza.

The palaces on Cordusio Square were built at the turn of the XIX - XX centuries and are perfectly preserved. Here are the Palazzo della Assicurationi Generali, Palazzo della Posta, Palazzo del Credito Italiano. In the center of the square is a monument to the great Italian writer of the XVIII century Giuseppe Parini, architect Luca Beltrami.
