Treasures of Emilia-Romagna - in the footsteps of Henry Morton

Description:

Do you know who Henry Morton is? In modern terms, he is the most popular travel journalist of the early and mid-twentieth century. While we lived behind the Iron Curtain, he traveled the world and wrote fascinating books. Let's take a ride with him! For example, Northern Italy. We invite you to a trip based on the book by Henry Morton “Walking in Northern Italy”. We promise you won't regret it! After all, we are waiting for Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Le Roncole, Busseto, Soranha, Ravenna and Parma.

1 day, Saturday

Transfer from Rimini Airport, hotel accommodation, free time to tune in to the wave of tireless traveler Henry Morton.

Day 2, Sunday

The morning starts with breakfast at the hotel. After a cup of fragrant coffee, fresh pastries and other delicious things, are you ready for the beautiful? Of course, yes! Then, go get acquainted with the beautiful Modena!

Our walk will take you through the lively medieval center, replete with market stalls, vibrant squares and impressive palaces. The whole life and history of Modena revolve around Piazza Grande (Main Square), which together with the Cathedral and the bell tower of Ghirlandin are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

But not only art and architecture is famous for Modena: it is the birthplace of tortellini, lambrusco wine, balsamic vinegar and Parmesan cheese. And all these wonderful things can be bought in your free time after the tour. And at the same time and walk, and have lunch, and savor the city yourself.

Modena is known all over the world for its legendary natives: Enzo Ferrari and Luciano Pavarotti. Therefore, in the afternoon, a tour of the Ferrari Museum is offered for those who wish. And the Luciano Pavarotti House Museum.

3 days, Monday

After breakfast at the hotel, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region is waiting for us - the city of Bologna, which knows a lot about both sciences and gastronomy (travel time is 50 minutes). This is the city of the university, whose students bring turmoil and fun, revitalize its cultural and social life. The historical center is well preserved and is considered one of the largest in Italy, thanks to a powerful policy to preserve and restore the city, which began in the 60s of the last century.

The culinary glory of Bologna is thundering all over the world! The cuisine here is known for its richness and diversity. Therefore, free time after the tour is recommended to spend as appropriate - tasty lunch and buy goodies for gifts to yourself and loved ones.

In the evening (about 18:00) – return to the hotel.

4 days, Tuesday

This day can be spent in different ways: either according to your own script, or go on an excursion to the city of Ferrara (travel time is 1 hour and 30 minutes). All this, of course, after breakfast at the hotel.

What's particularly interesting about Ferrara? Firstly, because it bears the title of the first in Europe “modern city”, the captivating atmosphere of which is better to penetrate, walking around the city on foot. The old Ferrara of medieval narrow and winding streets easily harmonizes with the wide avenues and elegant streets of the “New Ferrara”, which appeared in the Renaissance thanks to the genius of the architect Rossetti.

In the evening (about 18:00) – return to the hotel.

5 days, Wednesday

After breakfast at the hotel, we go to the amazing towns of Le Roncole and Busseto, and also look at the castle of Soranha. Travel time is 1 hour and 10 minutes.

The famous traveler Henry Morton did not regret that during his journey he turned from Via Emilia (Roman road, built by Emilia Lepidus in the II century BC) to a secondary highway and did not miss the village of Le Roncole. We promise you won't regret it either!

Back to the hotel.

Day 6, Thursday

And again a day with options: either spend the day after breakfast on your own, or go to the incomparable Ravenna. Travel time is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Ravenna, the last capital of the Western Roman Empire, is amazing because eight monuments from the UNESCO World Heritage List are lost among its narrow streets!

Back to the hotel.

7th day, Friday

After breakfast, we go to the city, whose name is on everyone’s lips – Parma! Travel time is 1 hour.

Of course, this city owes its fame to things very tasty, albeit prosaic - ham, Parmesan cheese and Lambrusco wine. But! You will be pleasantly surprised: Parma is the works of the brilliant architect and sculptor Benedetto Antelami (one of the few known artists of the Romanesque era of the Middle Ages), this is the painting of Correggio (an original Renaissance artist), this is the city of Verdi, where the traditions of musical art continue and the culture of Italian opera is preserved.

Free time in Parma until 16:00.

On the way to the hotel there is another interesting stop: a visit to the family balsamic vinegar factory in the province of Modena. Here we will get acquainted with a unique product created by the Romans for medicinal purposes. Patience and commitment to tradition in the manufacture of this product is admirable! Balzamiko will give any dish a new unique taste. No wonder the native of Modena, the great tenor Luciano Pavarotti surprised the uninitiated with the unique properties of the delicacy. You will certainly appreciate this specialty, and – very likely – in your homes, the cherished bottle of recognizable shape will take pride of place.

Back to the hotel.
