Modena - make difficult simple
Description:
Modena’s motto is “AVIA PERVIA” – “Let’s make the difficult simple.”
It is a city to explore quietly, on foot, without fuss: wander through its ancient streets (many of which were canals, hence the names of the streets: Canal Grande, Canal Chiaro, Canaletto, etc.), sometimes in the shadow of long porticoes, considering the showcases of local artisans, between houses and palaces painted with ochre and red, listening to the local dialect, so soft and musical.
The noble house d’Este chose Modena as its new capital after being expelled from Ferrara.
Our walk will take you through the lively medieval center, replete with bright squares and impressive palaces. The whole life and history of Modena revolve around the Piazza Grande (main square), which together with the Cathedral and the bell tower of Ghirlandin are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The cathedral of Modena is completely covered with white marble and decorated with numerous sculptures. The facade is remarkable for bas-reliefs depicting the history of the life of the sculptor Villijelmo. He was not only a sculptor but also a predictor of the future. It is better to see once than to read even the most detailed description.
In the municipal palace we will see the famous trophy, won by the inhabitants of Modena, and painted halls. Take a walk through the picturesque streets of Modena, see the Ducal Palace, one of the largest palaces in Italy in the Baroque style. Currently, the palace is the training center of the Military Academy.
But not only art and architecture is famous Modena: it is the birthplace of tortellini, tigella and gnocco fritto, Parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar, the taste of which is combined with anything.
In general, the beautiful Modena should not only be considered, but also savored!
