Maxim Gorky.

Capri is the concentration of beauty in the framing of the marvelously blue sea, it has been described as many times as it is washed by the waves.

Capri fascinates, it greets you with cheerful colors and takes you by surprise with stunning views. Known for its comfortable climate and bright landscapes, natural beauty and millennial history, it has preserved a mystery to this day. As Homer tells in the Odyssey, the island of Capri served as the prototype of the famous island of sirens.

It was inhabited in the Paleolithic era, and many centuries ago the Greeks liked it, they cut through the steep cliff of the island, a staircase leading to the very top, on which you can walk today. The beauty of Capri was appreciated by the Romans, who made this place a paradise, and the first of its famous inhabitants were the emperors Augustus and Tiberius.

Emperor Augustus preferred it to the island of Ischia, he made it his personal estate giving it the name "City of sweet idleness".

And Tiberias island was seduced by its inaccessibility, it was possible to pester in one bay, all other shores were reliably protected by high cliffs. Then twelve villas appeared here, according to the number and names of the main deities of the ancient Pantheon. Some of them, such as the villa of Jupiter, became the standard for the villas of Nero, Domitian and Hadrian.

Capri, with the light hand of the Romans, became a luxurious and privileged place for the rest of the most outstanding people.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Russian writers, journalists, artists, philosophers, politicians came here, some for a couple of days, others for several months, and some for several years. The island confirmed its fame as the “island of sirens”, but in addition to the beauty of the island, the Russians who came here were attracted by Gorky’s personality and the opportunity to communicate with him. Gorky himself was a sweet-spoken siren, his warm and affectionate appeals to Capri created a tradition of Russian artists and writers coming to Capri and working in the quiet surroundings of the island. The revolution in Russia changed the composition of the Russian population of Capri, mainly political immigrants.

The island inspired creative personalities - poets and musicians to create works in which the beauty of nature was glorified in harmony with the simple unassuming life of its inhabitants. Here Mendelssohn-Bartoldi wrote the opera “Walpurian Night” based on Goethe’s poetry; Massenet created his “Lazy Song”, where he sang Caprian sweet idleness; Wagner was inspired by the majestic and formidable views of the island's gorges while working on Tristan and Isolde. There are many poets and writers who worked here. Among them are Pablo Neruda, Curzio Malaparte and Norman Douglas.

Despite its miniature size, the island of Capri is rich in attractions, and the panoramic views of the island are unique. And of course, the main attraction of Capri is the sea - piercingly azure and transparent. It is for these reasons that the rest on the island of Capri was chosen by emperors, industrial magnates, movie stars and ordinary people.

The island is waiting for you to share the atmosphere of extraordinary beauty and luxury.
