Naples

Buried in stone. herculaneum

Description:

The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD wiped out the blooming Roman cities, killing many people.

As a result of the catastrophe, we have before us the tangible and real culture of Italy in all its manifestations. No other archaeological finds found in the endless expanses of the Roman Empire can compare with what we see walking the streets of Herculaneum and Pompeii.

Located near Pompeii, Herculaneum has significant advantages. Here remained whole roofs of houses and preserved papyrus scrolls with texts of ancient authors. Volcanic deposits sealed the city so tightly, depriving it of air access for two thousand years, thanks to this, wood products of bone and fabrics were preserved.

Well preserved temples, palaces, baths, amphitheatres and theaters, houses and public buildings we find almost as they left the inhabitants of these places, and most strikingly, we see the daily life of ordinary people.

Today, the city "Burned in stone", is a place of pilgrimage of artists, connoisseurs and art theorists, collectors and simply curious travelers, eager to see with their own eyes what is called "reborn antiquity".
