Church of San Francesco di Paola

Naples, Italy

Description:

The church of San Francesco di Paola was built by Ferdinand I in 1846 in Naples. It is a neoclassical church built in the image of the Roman Pantheon. The temple overlooks Plebiscite Square, located opposite the Royal Palace.

In the round-plan interior there is a magnificent precious altar, which was made of hard stone and decorated with paintings and many sculptures. The church hall of the temple resembles a theater, as it is crowned with balconies and curtains.

The dome of the church of San Francesco di Paola is 53 meters in diameter. The main hall contains many interesting works, including a magnificent painting depicting San Francesco Paolansky, who resurrects a child. An interesting fact is that the tabernacle and the altar are anachronisms compared to the building itself: the first was carried out by Ferdinando Fuga in 1751, and the second dates back to the seventeenth century, both of which were moved here from the Church of St. Apostles.
