Church of St. Clara of Assisi

Description:

Santa Chiara (Italian: Santa Chiara, Church of St. Clara of Assisi) is a religious complex in Naples that includes a monastery, tombs and an archaeological museum.

The monastery was built between 1310 and 1340 by King Robert the Wise as the tomb of the kings of the Anjou dynasty.

Initially, the monastery was built in the traditional Provencal-Gothic style, but in the XVII-XVIII centuries it was rebuilt in the Baroque style. During World War II, the building was almost completely destroyed by bombing. After restoration in 1953, the church regained its original appearance.
