Muratu Monument in Naples

Description:

Joachim'm Murat (Proper pronunciation - Murat, (French Murat), name - French Joachim: in traditional pronunciation - Joaché'n, in modern - Joaché'm) (March 25, 1767 - October 13, 1815) - Napoleonic Marshal, Grand Duke of Berg in 1806-1808, King of the Kingdom of Naples in 1808-1815.

He was married to Napoleon's sister. For his military successes and outstanding bravery, Napoleon rewarded Murat with the Neapolitan crown in 1808. In December 1812, Murat was appointed by Napoleon as commander-in-chief of the French forces in Germany, but resigned at the beginning of 1813. In the campaign of 1813, Murat took part in a number of battles as Marshal of Napoleon, after the defeat in the battle of Leipzig returned to his kingdom in southern Italy, and then in January 1814 went over to the side of opponents of Napoleon. During Napoleon's triumphant return to power in 1815, Murat wanted to return to Napoleon as an ally, but the emperor refused his services. That attempt cost Murat the crown. In the autumn of 1815, he, according to investigators, tried to regain the Kingdom of Naples by force, was arrested by the authorities of Naples and shot.
