Despite the fact that the history of the square stretches from the seventeenth century, its current name Piazza del Plebishito received after the events that occurred in October 1860. It was then that a national assembly took place on the square, following which southern Italy became part of Piedmont. Translated into Russian, the name of the square means “People’s Assembly Square”.
