St. Francesco Cathedral
Piazza del Plebiscito, Napoli, Italy
Description:
On the main square of Naples Piazza del Plebishito, directly opposite the Royal Palace is the grandiose church of San Francesco di Paola. Its construction was completed in 1816. The original customer of the church was Jokim Murat Napoletansky. According to his idea, the church of San Francesco was supposed to glorify the emperor Napoleon (Jokim was Napoleon’s father-in-law), but the reign of the famous commander ended before the completion of construction.
The Church of San Francesco repeats the architecture of the Roman Pantheon. The church has a rich design, its walls are decorated with fascinating paintings. One of them tells the story of the resurrection of a child by Saint San Francesco. The dome crowning the church is 53 meters in diameter.
