Naples Maritime Station

Description:

Naples Marine Station is a monumental building located in the port of Naples, next to the pier for mooring ships. The sea station is recognized as a monument of Italian fascist architecture and is a notable city landmark.

The Marine Station was built in Naples in 1936, just before World War II. The need to build such a huge building was long overdue - ocean ships were constantly increasing in size, the intensity of navigation was increasing, and the old terminal could not cope with the increased passenger traffic.

Of all the projects of the future station, the option proposed by the talented architect Cesare Bazzani was chosen, in which the station building was a complex of two completely symmetrical terminals connected by three crosswalks. This structure was very convenient - soon after the construction of the Naples sea station turned into one of the largest ports in Europe and remains so even now.

Externally, the sea station does not strike with the delights of architecture and looks more like a military fortress. But the monumental architecture and scale of construction invariably impress tourists.
