Parma

Parma – Painting, Music and Parmesan

Description:

Of course, this city owes its fame to things very tasty, albeit prosaic - ham, Parmesan cheese and Lambrusco wine.

But! You will be pleasantly surprised: Parma is the work of the brilliant architect and sculptor Benedetto Antelami (one of the few known artists of the Romanesque era of the Middle Ages), this is the painting of Correggio (an original Renaissance artist), this is the birthplace of Parmigianino, this elegant and sophisticated (and also unlucky) artist, whose paintings adorn the most famous art galleries of the world.

Parma is also the birthplace of Verdi, where the traditions of musical art continue and the culture of Italian opera is preserved.

During the tour, we will get acquainted with the Pilotta Palace and the unique – fully wooden – Farnese Theatre, learn historical and unusual facts about this influential family. Then we will admire the frescoes of Correggio in the room of the abbess of the monastery of St. Paul. Visit the Cathedral (a real art gallery) with the luxurious dome of Correggio and the Baptistery, designed by Benedetto Antela and built of pink marble "Verona Rose".

Marble changes color depending on how the sun illuminates it. It is one of the most recognized medieval buildings in Italy. We will see one of the oldest pharmacies in Italy (1201), admire the frescoes of Corregio and Parmigianino in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, visit the Church of St. Mary della Steccata, where the frescoes of Parmigianino are perfectly preserved.

Well, after all this, we deserve to taste prosaic things: ham, Parmesan cheese, Culatello, salami felino and coppa, accompanied by local wines Lambrusco or Malvasia.
