Fontanellato Castle

Fontanellato, Colorno Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Description:

To the north of Parma is the commune of Fontanellato, the settlement of which dates back to the Bronze Age. The internecine struggle of the various communes unfolded here. As a result of civil strife, the castle, built by the Pallavicino family, passed from the hands of one opposing side to the other.

Having become a symbol of unyielding hostility, Fontanellato Castle gradually grew into a residence. The best architects, masters of painting and architects decorated the fortress. The famous frescoes "Diana and Acteon" found their home in the castle, as well as the family collection of weapons Sanvitale, sculptures by Antonio Canova, a gallery of family portraits.

The real crown of the creation of craftsmen was the Optical Room. With the help of a complex system using mirrors, an image of the square in front of Fontanellato is projected there.
