Pompeii

Pompeii, an ancient city

Description:

The sight of these ruins involuntarily made me transported to a time when these walls were still inhabited. It is impossible to pass through these ruins without feeling some completely new feeling that makes you forget everything, except the terrible incident with this city.” Karl Bryullov 1827

In 79 AD there was a powerful eruption of Vesuvius, which destroyed several cities, among which was the city of Pompeii, located at the foot of the volcano. More than a thousand and a half years Pompeii remained buried under a layer of volcanic ash.

Organized archaeological excavations began here in the middle of the XVIII century and immediately aroused great interest not only in Italy, but throughout the world. Many travelers aspired to visit Pompeii, where literally at every step there were evidences of the suddenly ended life of the ancient city.

And now interest in Pompeii does not weaken, every year it is visited by a huge number of tourists who want to see this “Wonder of the World”.
