The last eruption was in 1944. Since then, the volcano rests, and one of the most powerful and tragic eruptions of Vesuvius, occurred in 79 AD, which killed three rather rich and important ancient Roman cities - Pompeii, Herculaneum, Stabia.

In the period of ancient history, it was one of the most terrible natural disasters of the ancient Roman Empire.

Time did its job and the existence of once blooming cities forgotten for many centuries.

Quite by chance, in the 16th century, discovered the “traces” of the ancient city of Pompeii!
