Street of Abundance Via del Abbondanza
Via dell'Abbondanza, Pompeii, Italy
Description:
Plenty Street (Via del Abbondanza) is located in Pompeii.
The street starts at the forum and ends at the Sarno Gate. It owes its name to the allegorical relief on the fountain, which represents an attractive girl with a cornucopia in her hands.
This street has always been the most prosperous and lively in the city. A large area is occupied by Villa Julia Felix, which is located at the end of the Via del Abbondanza. A garden with statues was built in the villa. An important role was played by the hall with a fresco, which represented nine muses.
The house of Octavia Quarter is also located on the street of Abundance and has its own significance. Tourists may be interested in the Triclinium Hall, which is painted with fragments from the Odyssey and the Iliad, as well as a fresco of the IV century style, which is considered the best example of Pompeii frescoes.
Lararia's house on Abundance Street is valuable thanks to a room with white relief of artificial marble and polished plaster with impurities. Here are scenes from the famous Iliad.
On the street is the Cryptoportico House, which is a wine cellar. The street of Abundance is still reminiscent of the past – the area continues to be considered a thriving shopping place and attracts a large number of people, making Via del Abbondanza a lively street.
