Monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi

Piazza del Popolo, 26, 48121 Ravenna RA, Italy

Description:

The monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi, founded in 1892, is erected in honor of the liberator of Italy and is located on the square Garibaldi, which smoothly connects with Piazza del Popolo.

Garibaldi was born in the family of a sailor, followed in the footsteps of his father and at the age of 25 became the captain of the brigantine Nostra Signora delle Grazie. Having met in Taganrog with the political émigré Giovanni Battista Cuneo, he became imbued with the ideas of independence and joined the secret society Young Italy.

The monument to the national hero is a sculpture of Garibaldi, rising on a high pedestal. Pushing his right leg forward and leaning on his sword, the hero looks proudly into the distance.
