Rimini

Rimini - two cities in one

Description:

Rimini, like the man whose name is inextricably linked to the city (Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta), has a dual nature.

There is modern Rimini: striped umbrellas on the coast, lined up in a number of hotels, bars, restaurants, in general, everything you need for a beach holiday.

But if you move away from the shore for a kilometer and a half, you will see a calm medieval Rimini. This city has preserved traces of the Roman period: Julius Caesar pronounced here "Alea Iacta Est". At the end of the Flaminium Road stands the triumphal arch of Augustus, the still functioning Tiberio Bridge, as well as traces of the Renaissance: the castle and the temple of Malatesta.

The Malatesta Temple is a majestic structure, although it is a completely unusual Christian church erected by Sigizmondo. Who is this Malatesta really: an insidious villain, a murderer, or a virtuous connoisseur of art, philosophy, literature? One thing is certain, he was an extraordinary man. What does this sign mean? 500!!! times repeated in the cathedral? Is it really a symbol of love for Sigizmondo and his beautiful third wife, Izotta?

During the tour, we will see the Arch of Augustus, the Places of Tre Martiri and Cavour, visit the Malatesta temple (where the crucifix of Giotto and the fresco of Piero della Francesca are located), learn about the life of this influential Renaissance family, see the picturesque corners of the city, such as Vecchia Pesqueria, the Borgo of San Giuliano and the Tiberio Bridge.
