Rimini

The most beautiful underground kingdom-caves of Frasassi. Cascata delle Marmore Falls.

Description:

Many tourists, choosing new routes among the hundreds of options offered by travel agencies, probably do not even think about the fact that a trip can be made not to the quiet ocean waters, not to the most popular resorts in the world. And even without spending free time, getting acquainted with ancient monuments of architecture and history; not in hiking in the boutiques of famous fashion houses. Your journey can be made enchanting underworld, immersed in which, literally, you get into a fantastic and mysterious world, the creation of which “worked” in a couple of times and nature. In 1974, this unusual underground world was opened to tourists who want to get acquainted with the Frasassi caves, which received the status of the most beautiful caves in Europe and complement the list of the most visited attractions in Italy.

The underground complex of Frasassi meets travelers with an inconspicuous entrance, crossing the threshold of which guests of the “Italian fairy tale” fall into the cave of the Holy Refuge. There is a small chapel, as scientists managed to find out, speleologists, it was built in the XI century, and an octagonal church, the date of construction of which is 1828. For unknown reasons, these buildings were abandoned and forgotten by people. Passing along a small narrow road, which is prudently fenced, tourists enter the hall of impressive size, called the “Ancona Abyss”.

It is impossible to express in words those feelings and sensations that arise at the sight of the Ancona Abyss. It seems as if hundreds of little dwarves have worked to create many stalactites and stalagmites of different sizes, colors and shapes. The ceiling of the Sala dell’Infinito cave is literally lost in height. Tourist winding trails among the limestone hills lead guests of the underworld to the Great Cave of Winds (La Grotta Grande del Vento), to the limestone cave Giant, where the giant-sized column is located, to the Sala Delle Candeline, the floor of which is literally dotted with hundreds of white and cream stalagmites shimmering in the reflection of a small lake. The similarity of stalagmites with candles is emphasized by artificial illumination, over which the rangers of the cave successfully worked. It cannot but amaze with its splendor... Niagara Falls. This underground world has its own Niagara Falls! The only difference is that it is stone, but this does not detract from its fantastic beauty. Sparkling frozen streams are so similar to water that it would be an unforgivable mistake to call this natural underground wonder.

Frasassi Caves is a geological wonder, which is the largest speleological complex and stunning with its number of various underground formations. Here, literally at every step, you can find various deposits: fragile and openwork “fringe”, large and thick majestic columns. All of them, depending on their composition, shimmer with snow-white, soft blue, greenish, creamy and pale pink shades.

For nature lovers, I suggest that we continue our journey by shifting 2 hours towards Rome we will see the waterfall delle Marmora the highest artificial waterfall in the world. Its height is 165 m, the water descends in three cascades. It is such a charming place that I will take the liberty of recommending it as a must visit.
