Palazzo del Podesta Palace
Description:
The Palazzo del Podesta is a famous architectural structure in Rimini, one of three palaces located on the Cavour Square and built during the reign of the Malatesta family. The palace was intended for the head of the city administration, who was not related to dynasties.
The facade of the Palazzo del Podesta has five windows and is decorated with teeth (“swallow tails”), which previously carried both a decorative load and a protective function when defending against enemy forces. The building looks like a real medieval fortress and has a formidable appearance. The elected ruler of Palazzo del Podesta had the highest authority in the city and was elected for one year.
At the present time, the Palazzo del Podesta is used most often as a hall in which exhibition events for the presentation of paintings, thematic photographs, retrospectives, illustrations for books and much more are held.
