Temple of Hera II
Description:
The temple of Hera II is located next to the first temple of Hera. This temple is also built in honor of Hera, as recent finds (coins, votive figurines) indicate that everything was dedicated to this goddess.
The construction of the temple dates from approximately the middle of the 5th century BC. The structure has 6 front columns and 14 side columns. During the construction of the temple, the optical effect of the curvature of the horizon was eliminated, when the lines are not straight, but slightly curved. With this effect, the standing in the temple does not seem that the columns of the building diverge. Such a reception is absent in the first temple of Hera.
The structure has a three-nave cella, which is raised 140 centimeters above the peristyle of the temple. To this day, many internal columns, stairs, fragments of walls have been preserved from the temple.
