La Maddalena and Caprera

Description:

The archipelago of La Maddalena has more than 50 islands. It is famous for the fact that until 2008, on one of its islets - Santo Stefano - there was a NATO naval base, on which US nuclear submarines were based. Of all the islands in the archipelago, only one is inhabited. This is what you can get by ferry from Palau. The ferry takes only 20 minutes and you will be on another island. The city of La Maddalena boasts its unique architecture, cozy restaurants and a special attractive atmosphere. It is not for nothing called “Little Paris”.

After a sightseeing tour of La Maddalena at the very time to go to another island - Caprera. You can reach it directly by car on the bridge. Caprera is famous for the fact that the greatest Italian commander Giuseppe Garibaldi spent the last years of his life on it, here he was buried. You will visit the Garibaldi House Museum, where the guide will tell you about the great commander, his life and family. For lovers of outdoor activities, we also advise to climb Mount Teyalone. Its height reaches 212 meters, and the climb will take about 20 minutes, but before you will open a fascinating panorama of the archipelago, Sardinia and Corsica.

After that, the ideal solution is to go to one of the beaches of Maddalena. Even in windy weather, you can find beaches in secluded areas of the island. The water off the coast is crystal clear and has an amazing color that varies from turquoise to dark green. In addition, the archipelago is a national park, so it is under constant control. There are many sea birds: gulls, cormorants and perpsans. Fishing is limited and therefore the water is abundant with fish of various species. Well, at lunchtime you can go to one of the restaurants of La Maddalena, where you will prepare delicious seafood dishes or fresh fish.
