Baroque fountain "Pony" in Taormina

Description:

Baroque fountain "Pony" is located in Taormina on the square in front of the Cathedral of Nicholas the Wonderworker. It stands on three concentric degrees and was built in 1635 from local marble. On each of the four sides of the fountain you can see small columns supporting the bowls above which the mythical ponies rise, and the water pouring from their mouths fills the fountain. On the east side is the fourth bowl, the largest of all, but now unused, as it served as a watering hole for animals in the old days. In the composition of the fountain, you can also see a basket with fruits, on which the coat of arms of Taormina-centaur stands. But in this case, the centaur is a woman. She has a scepter in one hand and a power in the other. The water in the fountain is drinking and many tourists willingly pour it into bottles.
