The Pearl of Tropea and Capo Vaticano
Description:
Tropea is a fairytale city! Located in southern Italy (Calabria region). It is called the “pearl” of the Tyrrhenian coast and deservedly. Surrounded by cozy hills covered with fields and vineyards, Tropeia, growing directly from the precipitous coastal rock, gives the impression of a mysterious beauty, like Venus, born of the foam of the sea. The city retains a true Italian flavor and culture. Winding narrow streets (width in the span of hands), dotted with a variety of shops, restaurants and ice cream cafes. Wonderful pedestrian street "Corso Vittorio Emmanuele", resting on the observation deck, which offers a delightful, simply fascinating view of the azure sea and the islet with the church "Santa Maria del Isola", as well as the port and cliff of St. Leonardo. In the proposed excursion we will walk through the streets of the city, visit the cathedral and several churches. We will also look at the temple "Health", which is adjacent to a small male monastery "Franciscans". We will go to the "cannon square", from where you can admire the amazing landscape that opens from this place. In the city shops you can buy products of local craftsmen made of ceramics and red coral, souvenirs and food products characteristic of this area. Along the way, I will talk about the significant events of Tropea, wonderful people and mythical characters with which the history of the town is associated, as well as the legend of the creation of this unique “pearl”. After a walk along Tropea, we will move (travel by personal car) to Cape Vaticano, where there is a lighthouse and two observation decks, from where you can admire the amazing panorama of the sea distance, which will open before your eyes. While you are photographing this splendor, I will tell you the legend associated with this cliff.
