Urbino

Urbino - the birthplace of the divine Raphael

Description:

Visiting the city of Urbino and its palace, I want to talk about the great who lived or have been here, and left behind a spirit of enlightenment and special sophistication. For 70 years during the Renaissance, the city was the cultural capital of Europe.

Federico da Montefeltro, Battista Sforza, Giovanni Santi, Divine Raphael, Piero della Francesca, Leonardo da Vinci, Donato Bramante, Francesco di Giorgio Martini, Luciano Laurano, Sandro Botticelli, Battista Alberti, Paulo Uccello, Luca Pacioli, Baldassare Castiglione - this is not a complete list of Renaissance humanists who were somehow related to this city.

What does the tour include? This is a visit to the ducal palace, the oratorio of St. Giovanni, the house of Raphael, the Piazzale Roma with the monument to Raphael, the observation deck near the fortress of Albornoz (XIV century), as well as a walk through the steep and narrow streets of the city.

When visiting the ducal palace, you need to pay attention to Raphael’s paintings “Dumb” and “St. Catherine of Alexandria”, Piero Francesca’s “Madonna of Senigal” and “Crimination of Christ”, Pedro Berruguete “Portrait of Federico da Montefeltro with the son of Guidobaldo”, “Ideal City” by an unknown author, on the office (studiolo) of Federico da Montefeltro.

It is recommended to visit the oratorio of St. Giovanni, where you can enjoy the frescoes of Lorenzo and Jacopo Salimbeni, relating to the XIV century.

In the house of Raphael is one of the earliest works of the artist, a fresco of the Virgin Mary with a baby.

Climbing the steeply climbing street of Rafael Sanzio, at the end of which is a monument to Raphael, and from where you can reach the fortress of Albornoz, we will reach the highest point in Urbino – Mount St. George. Sergio offers the most beautiful view of the castle.
