St. Francis Church
7, Piazza S. Francesco, Urbino, PU 61029, 61029, Italy
Description:
A strict Gothic church was built in the 14th century. It is best known as the Urbino Pantheon, where many noble people of the city are buried.
By the time of the 18th century reconstruction, little remained of the former church. It was rebuilt, only a beautiful Gothic bell tower and a remarkable portal have survived from ancient buildings.
The Church of St. Francis is quite a spacious room. The high dome covers the vaulted halls in the form of a Latin cross. There are also wonderful frescoes by an unknown master of the 15th century. Of the interesting details inside the church can be noted the graves of the parents of the great Raphael, artists Viti and Barocci.
