Sirmione and Desenzano on Lake Garda
Description:
sirmione
The name Sirmione comes from "sirm" - shelter, abode and "one" - water.
It was on this peninsula in the first century BC that the rich Roman patricians built their first villas. But the most incredible thing was that they were looking at the same natural beauty, mountains, hills and blue surfaces that we can admire today.
During our tour of Sirmione, we will learn in detail all its attractions, including visiting churches and walking along alleys and olive parks.
desenzano
Desenzano is the largest lakeside town on Lake Garda, this town is very popular both among tourists and among the Italians themselves. There are many fashionable shops in the town, and life always boils on small and cozy squares.
Proof of the Roman period in Desenzano are magnificent fragments of colored mosaics of a fourth-century Roman villa.
During the past centuries, the Dezentzans have always been great merchants of grain, as evidenced by the preserved Old Port, which was the main base of commercial activity on Lake Garda. A Venetian arched bridge was built above the port, opposite which guests of Desenzano love to take their photos.
From afar you can see the pier with a lighthouse, which has become a symbol of Desenzano. According to the number of monumental monuments, Desenzano was fully recognized as a real city.
On the main square you can see the statue of St. Angela Merici, the patroness of Desenzano.
At the foot of the medieval castle, you can admire the general view of the city and Lake Garda.
