Roman stone bridge

Description:

When Ponte Pietra was built, the Stone Bridge has not yet been determined. For several centuries it was wooden, according to scientists, and in the first century it was built of stone.

The surviving part of the pilasters of the bridge of Roman construction is folded according to the opus quadratum method, that is, from square stone blocks held together by iron staples. On the second pilaster, scientists see traces of the restoration of the bridge in ancient times. Most likely, the first restoration was in the second half of the II century.
