Statue of Juliet
Via Cappello, 23, Casa Di Giulietta
Description:
The statue of Juliet is one of the most romantic attractions in Italy. The sculpture of Shakespeare’s heroine is installed in the courtyard of her house. According to legend, touching the breast of the statue guarantees good luck in love. By the way, the power of lovers is so great that Juliet’s chest is periodically wiped literally to holes and she has to be soldered with metal.
For a long time, in addition to touching the chest, tourists performed another ritual: left on the walls of the house countless notes with wishes. Again, the power of love was great. It is so great that the authorities of Verona decided to clean the walls, so as not to lose them altogether.
The house itself was built in the XIII century and, in fact, belonged to the Dal Cappello family, who became the prototype of the Capulet clan in the famous tragedy.
