Kiericati Palace

Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, 37-39, 36100 Vicenza, Italy

Description:

Palazzo Chiericati is a beautiful palace in Vicenza, built in the Renaissance style by the famous architect Andrea Palladio. Construction began in 1550 by order of Count Girolamo Chiericati, and the last stages of construction were managed by his son Valerio. The final construction of Chiericati was completed in 1680 under the direction of Carlo Borella.

The palace was built on the territory of Piazza del Isola, which at that time housed wood and livestock markets. A triple staircase, made in the classical style, provided access to the palace. The main facade of the Palazzo was made of three parts: its central part has a covered balcony, and the two extreme ones are decorated with beautiful loggias. Another attraction of the facade are combined columns, made in two rows.

In 1855, Palazzo Chiericati housed the City Museum, and eventually the City Picture Gallery, which to this day houses the works of famous artists such as Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Van Dyck Cima da Conegliano and the greatest Palladio. In 1994, the building was included in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites and received international recognition.
