River Kishon

Haifa, Israel

Description:

The Kishon River flows in Israel, has a length of about seventy kilometers and flows into the Mediterranean Sea near Haifa. Now on its shores, especially near the sea, there are many parks, this is a good place for tourists and locals to relax. However, by the end of the last century, this waterway was often called a dead river.

At one time, many oil refineries and chemical plants were built on its shores, which poured waste from their production into Kishon. As a result, all life actually disappeared from the river, and the water contained so much acid that swimming here was dangerous to health.

The government of the country was forced to adopt a program for the revival of the river, it is successfully implemented to this day. But to talk about the full recovery of Kishon is still premature, there is still a lot of work.
