Galilee in the footsteps of Jesus Christ
Description:
Galilee is a geographical area in northern Israel. One of the most beautiful places in our country. In addition to its diverse flora and fauna, as well as beautiful landscapes, the Galilee has many important sites for the Christian tradition.
This is where Jesus Christ spent most of his life. Here passed his childhood, youth and mature years. Here he preached, healed and found his disciples. From there his teachings came to Jerusalem and then spread throughout the world. Where are we going?
Nazareth the Place of Annunciation. It is here that the Gospel story begins, the appearance of the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary. We will see the place where, according to Christian tradition, the house of the Holy Family was located. Today, above its foundation is the largest church in Israel – the Basilica of the Annunciation. The Virgin Mary, the carpenter Joseph and the little Jesus, will be our companions on the journey to Nazareth.
After Nazareth we will go to the bank of the Jordan River. It was in the waters of this river that Jesus received his baptism from John the Baptist. From that moment began his ministry in the name of God. We will be on the banks of this famous river, and you will be able to follow the path of Christ to take a bath in its sacred waters.
The city of Jesus is called Capernaum in the Bible. Here he found the first disciples, the apostles. This is where Jesus came out to preach. Here he healed the servant of the Roman centurion and the mother-in-law of the Apostle Peter. In Capernaum we will talk about who were the first disciples of Christ and how the early Christian community was formed. And at the same time we will see the house of Peter himself, where presumably the healing of the sick relative of the apostle took place.
The Church of the Twelve Apostles is one of the most beautiful and benevolent churches in the Holy Land. An Orthodox temple located on the shores of Lake Galilee, with an adjacent garden of citrus, ficus, banana trees and vineyards. It is a place of paradise on earth. We will meet with the monk Irinarch, the guardian of this wonderful Orthodox monastery and visit the amazingly beautiful temple.
The most famous miracle performed by Christ, mentioned by all four evangelists, is the miracle of the multiplication of bread and fish. We will see a remarkable Byzantine mosaic of an ancient church dedicated to this biblical event.
The tour is recommended for anyone interested in the history of Christianity.
