Angkor Temple Complex: Small and Great Circle

Description:

Temple complex Angkor Wat "Small Circle" includes the following attractions: temples Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Phnom Bakeng, Baphuon, Ta Keo, Terrace of the Leper King, elephant terrace.

The most beautiful monument of the whole complex of Angkor is the most famous and well-preserved temple of Angkor Wat, built over thirty years during the reign of Suryavarman II. The temple is considered the largest sacred building in the world and is a typical combination of elegance and harmony for Asian architecture.

At a distance of two kilometers, the fortress of Angkor Thom deserves special attention the central temple of Bayon and its fifty-four huge towers, each of which is decorated with four Buddha guises. According to one version, a portrait of the king himself was presented in the image of Buddha. This temple was the last large religious building built in Angkor.
Ta Prohm is a temple in Angkor, built by Jayavarman VII in honor of his mother, whom he identified with Prajnaparamita (the mother of all deities and the goddess of “perfect Wisdom”).

The “Great Circle” of the Angkor Temple Complex includes the temples of Pre Kang, Pre Nik Pin, Ta Som, East Mebon, PreRup. All temples were built at different times by different rulers, each in its own unique and has its own history and, of course, a legend.
Amazing miniature Bantey Srey, as if carved from pink sandstone will not leave indifferent even an experienced traveler. Almost every centimeter is covered with carvings containing scenes from the ancient Indian epic Ramayama.
After the gentle Bantey Sreya, the temple-mountain PreRup, looks very massive and even rough, however, can not but cause admiration.
The group of temples Pre Kang, Pre Nik Pin, Ta Som, built at the same time and dedicated to the Buddha, are also unique. This is one of the axial plans of Angkor and its ingenious hydrosystems.
As for Eastern Mebon, he was on a small island in the middle of a huge reservoir, which, unfortunately, became shallow. But despite this, the temple dedicated to the deified parents of Rajendravarman II leaves a stunning impression.
