Sihanoukville (Kompong Som)

Colonial Cambodia. Campot-Kep-Bokor.

Description:

A one-day excursion will allow you to plunge into the world of Cambodia in the 19th and 20th centuries. You will see the centers of colonial life: the cities of Kep and Campot, the favorite resting place of the French aristocracy, Bokor National Park.

After an hour and a half we will visit the cozy streets of Campot, where French colonial architecture has been preserved. Stop at the promenade, which offers amazing views of the Elephant Mountains. We'll visit the durian monument. Then we head to the fragrant Cap at the famous crab market. In a restaurant near the market, we will taste the freshest Cape blue crab. Next, we will ride along the wide boulevards, characteristic of the resort towns of the Old World, we will see the dead quarter of French villas.

We will continue our way to the temple of Kampong Trach Wat and the temple cave of the same name, in the depths of which there are statues of Buddha. Then we will see the pepper plantation - there you can buy the famous Kampot pepper and various souvenirs.

We climb to the top of Mount Bokor, in the once luxurious French village of Cité du Bokor, located in the territory of the Bokor National Park. Our way will be through the serpentine going through the jungle. Relict trees-giants, entangled with vines, will be replaced by small trees and shrubs. After the next turn, we will see a 29-meter statue of Lok Yeai Mao, the patroness of travelers and hunters. Paying homage to Mao's grandmother, we will proceed to an abandoned Catholic church with an observation deck above it. Here, from a bird’s eye view, you can enjoy a delightful view of the Gulf of Thailand, the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc and the Bokor Hotel Palace, which will be our next stop. Built in 1925 and located on the edge of the plateau, it was once a recreation center for French aristocrats and officials. Next, look at the Sampov Pram pagoda, built in 1924 by King Sisowat Monivong of Cambodia. The temple will surprise scattered around it huge flat rocks, similar to sailing boats. The pagoda works in our time. You can watch the leisurely life of Buddhist monks. Our tour will end with Popoqueville Falls.
