Kyzylkup tract
Description:
Kyzylkup tract: Martian “Tiramisu” and the geological symphony of Mangystau
Discover Kyzylkup – one of the most colorful and photogenic natural palettes of Mangystau, where layers of the ancient ocean formed into hills resembling a giant dessert. This is a place where snow-white chalk, cinnavar-red iron layers and golden sandstones alternate, creating a surreal "Martian" landscape of incredible beauty.
Why is Kyzylkup a unique must-visit for every traveler?
Geological tiramisu: Walk among the hills, which are compared to the famous Italian dessert for their perfect layering and contrasting palette of white, red, yellow and brown. This is a rare natural phenomenon, where you can literally see the "slices" of geological history dating back to the Tethys ocean.
Paradise for photographers and instagram expeditions: Every angle here is a finished picture. Soft hill lines, sharp contrasts of colors and endless sky create ideal conditions for landscape, artistic and fashion shooting. This is one of those places in Kazakhstan where no filters are needed.
Key point of the combined route: Kyzylkup fits perfectly into a busy day. It is located on the way to the other titans of Mangystau - Mount Bokty and the legendary tract of Bozhyr, allowing you to see several completely different, but equally impressive landscapes in one trip.
Affordable adventure: Unlike some hard-to-reach locations, Kyzylkup easily conquers on an all-wheel drive car, making this fantastic spectacle accessible to a wide range of nature and adventure lovers.
Practical information for visiting:
Location: Mangystau region, in the central part of the Mangyshlak peninsula, near the highway leading to the Bozhyr tract.
Coordinates for Yandex.Maps: Latitude: 43.509722, Longitude: 54.31888
How to get there: From Aktau it is necessary to move towards the Bozhyr tract. After the village of Shetpe, the path runs along the gravel-ground road. Required SUV or crossover with high clearance. The path can be combined with a visit to Mount Sherkala.
Best time to visit: Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal for walking and taking photos. The most saturated colors and soft light are an hour before sunset and at dawn, when shadows emphasize layering. Avoid traveling in rainy weather as clay soils become impassable.
What to bring with you: Comfortable trekking shoes, water supply, sunglasses and cream, as well as a camera with a wide-angle lens for capturing large-scale panoramas. To protect fragile rocks, walk only on trails, do not try to dig or break the layers.
Kyzylkup is a holiday for the eyes and soul. He proves that nature is the greatest artist, and invites each guest to take with him a piece of this incredible, edible-looking beauty.
