Press Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Kazakh mediaFirst, the Day of Journalism of Independent Kazakhstan was celebrated on May 10. And all because on this day, the first Kazakh-language newspaper “Turkestan Uyalitty Gazetainin” began to appear long ago. Or, more simply, "Turkestan News."

But in 1997 it was revealed that it was funded by the tsarist government. In addition, it “propaganda of colonization of free Kazakh steppes.” Therefore, May 10 did not enter the history of Kazakhstan journalism as a professional holiday.

I had to think again about when to celebrate the great journalistic holiday. I didn't think long, though. And they decided to designate June 28 as a holiday, because on this day the first Kazakh media law was adopted, which was called the Law of the Kazakh SSR “On Press and Other Media”. Since 1997, the professional holiday of journalists has been celebrated.
