While in Italy all roads lead to Rome, in Cyprus all roads lead to the Kykka Monastery. Different paths go there - today we drive past the Troodos mountains, the top of which is Mount Olympus. Everything here is very close - the sea, mountains, Orthodoxy, paganism. On the Christian paths, we pass by the abode of the Greek gods. Unusual nature, stunning views, amazing photos are waiting for us.
We come to the village of Lefkara, translated as "White Mountains", as it is located on the slopes of the Troodos mountains, consisting of limestone and calcium. The village is famous for the local fine lace and silver craft. The art of handmade lace is listed by UNESCO as a recognition for women who have retained their skills for 600 years. There is much to see in Lefkare besides folk crafts. This is the Church of the Holy Cross. The main relic of this temple is a particle of the Life-Creating Cross. Shocked by an ancient relic, we go to the Kikki Monastery.
Here is another shrine – a miraculous icon of the Mother of God. Many legends speak of healings and miraculous salvations, thanks to this icon. Our Lady of Kykka is also considered a deliverer from drought - during severe trials, the icon is brought to Mount Troni.
On the mountain there is a stone throne (troni) with a mosaic list of icons. After the monastery, impressed by stories, stories and legends, we continue our journey and approach the middle of our journey.
Take a look at the village of Platres, Switzerland of Cyprus. Here you can go to the waterfalls of Caledonia and Milomeris or to the trout farm, on the outskirts of Platres. We're dining in grilled trout, the signature dish of the village. Those who do not like fish are offered lamb.
