Cyprus Wine Museum

Cyprus, Limassol, 42, Paphou Str., Erimi Village

About the company:

Cyprus vineyards are over 150 years old. Here in the vicinity of Limassol grow about two hundred varieties of grapes known all over the world. Like five thousand years ago, wine is produced in 32 famous wineries. The main ones are in the villages of Erimi, Sotira, Omodos and Platres. You can get acquainted with the wine tradition of the island at the Erimi Village wine museum.

It was opened in 2000 by composer Anastasia Guy. The location was not chosen by chance. In the village of Emiri is the main crossroads of trade wine routes, and not far is the oldest vineyard and the old castle of the Crusaders, which gave the name to the famous wine "Commandaria". Several floors of the old family house occupy expositions illustrating the history of Cypriot winemaking. Here are collected ancient jars and vases, as well as medieval wine vessels of the most original and unusual forms. The main jewel of the collection is a small red jug, which is almost 2,500 years old.

On the ground floor and in the basements there is a collection of the best Cypriot wines. Here is the tasting hall Hilarion, where you can relax and try different varieties. Be sure to taste Commandaria wine, which Richard the Lionheart called "the wine of kings and queen of wines." “Commandaria” can only be called the drink produced by the five main wineries of Cyprus, collecting grapes from different regions of the island.
