Chui Avenue, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Description:

One of the main attractions of Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, is the central square of Ala-Too. It is very popular with tourists and locals, being a place for folk festivals and rallies. Along its perimeter are the State Historical Museum, Oak Park, the monument of Friendship of Peoples, the Museum of Sculptures in the open air, as well as the beautiful St. Nicholas Church - the oldest building in the city.

From 1984 to 2003, a monument to Lenin stood on Ala-Too Square, which is currently located on Old Square. In its place, the sculpture “Erkindik” was installed, depicting a winged woman, personifying freedom. High above her head she held a round frame of the Kyrgyz yurt - tunduk. In 2011, in its place put the monument “Hikol Manas”, dedicated to the hero of the folk epic – Manas the Magnanimous. His majestic bronze figure reaches a height of 10 meters. In the same year, a monument to Chingiz Aitmatov was erected on the square. A year later, a black and white monument was erected on Ala-Too in memory of the shooting of a demonstration in Bishkek in 2002.

Another attraction of the square is a 45-meter flagpole, near which the guard changes daily.
