Sunday Cathedral
prosp. Zhibek Jolu, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Description:
One of the many attractions of Bishkek is the Sunday Cathedral, consecrated in honor of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The question of its creation was raised in 1943, and in 1944 the Orthodox community was offered an unfinished structure, which was planned to be reconstructed into a church. Construction work was carried out under the leadership of the famous architect V.V. Veryuzhsky. The building of the monastery was lined with beautiful ceramic tiles, blocked with a gable roof, and also decorated with six poppies on narrow high drums. Above the memorial there is a beautiful tent bell tower, whose height reaches 29.5 meters. The altar of the church is fenced off by a three-tiered iconostasis, near it there are two thrones - St. Alexis and the Resurrection of the Lord.
In 1996, by decree of Askar Akayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the territory of the Resurrection Cathedral was landscaped and significantly expanded. Experts note that, despite the ceramic relief cladding and some elements of ornament at the central entrance, which cause associations with the architecture of Central Asia, in general, the snow-white temple with a beautiful blue roof and domes made in the form of onions has a classic Russian appearance.
