Bank of China Tower
Bank of China Tower, 1 Garden Rd, Central, Hong Kong
Description:
This 70-storey skyscraper was built in 1989, and until 1992 was considered the tallest in Asia. This skyscraper was the first outside the United States to break the 305-meter high altitude. It currently ranks third in Hong Kong, behind the International Financial Centre and Central Plaza.
The original design was criticized by Feng Shui supporters. Since feng shui has a huge influence in Chinese culture, the architects had to make changes to the construction plan. The futuristic and unusual design became so popular with residents and tourists that it was used in some computer games, such as SimCity 4. It has also been digitally processed and used in Star Trek: Voyager and Battleship.
On the skyscraper open several observation platforms. One of them, open to public entrance, is on the 43rd floor. The other is located on the 70th floor and closed to outsiders.
